5 low-cost and no-cost tips to help you save money on your energy bills

Earth Day
Celebrate Earth Day by changing a lightbulb and helping to plant the Lorax Forest!  This year for Earth Day, SYLVANIA and The Lorax Project are joining forces to protect real-life forests and species against the Once-lers of the world.

For every SYLVANIA Energy Star-qualified CFL purchased during the months of April and May with your Lorax coupon, SYLVANIA will donate a part of the proceeds to Conservation International's efforts in amazing places around the world.

CFLs use less energy, lower your utility bills, and reduce air pollution.

Compared to standard incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps:

  • Save energy -- using about 75% less energy
  • Save money -- save on your monthly electricity bill
  • Last longer -- CFLs last 6-10 times longer
  • Provide the same light quality -- and light output
  • Are cooler -- generating less heat
  • Are flicker-free
  • Fit in most light fixtures

Look for the ENERGY STAR logo, the symbol for energy efficiency.

How does that help the environment?
Energy is generated by power plants that deliver electricity to your home.  In the United States, half those power plants burn coal, a fossil fuel, to create that electricity.  Another 20 percent burn oil and natural gas, also fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuels creates air pollution that forms smog and haze and can lead to health problems. When you use less energy, power plants need to burn less of these fossil fuels to generate that electricity.
