EPA Performance Track

The US Environmental Protection Agency's Performance Track initiative is a voluntary partnership that recognizes top environmental performance by facilities.

To qualify for the Performance Track program, companies must provide information about their current environmental programs and demonstrate that they have an environmental management system in place. They also must ensure that their environmental programs are tailored to the needs of their operating communities.  Furthermore, companies must describe two current environmental programs and commit to four more programs.

In 2004, OSRAM SYLVANIA's Hillsboro plant joined the Partnership and outlined plans to reduce waste by increasing recycling and avoiding 124 tons of non-hazardous waste from being deposited in landfills annually, reduce energy consumption by installing energy-efficient and occupancy sensors and improving air compressor efficiency, reucing VOCs from the cleaning and printing processes, and reducing lead in glass.

Daily water consumption was reduced from 120,000 to 10,000 gallons. This is a reduction of 110,000 gallons, or enough to fill 30 backyard swimming pools. The plant also reduced liquid hazardous waste by 90 percent. Both of these initiatives were completed in the last two years.
