In 2004, the New Hampshire Governor’s Award, Honorable Mention, for Pollution Prevention was given to Hillsboro for its conservation initiatives which center on water, electricity, and nitrogen use reduction. These initiatives will result in annual savings of 3.6 million gallons of water, 600,000 kilowatt hours of electricity use, and 33 million cubic feet of nitrogen, which combined results in an annual cost savings of almost $300,000. Established in 1994, the Governor’s Award for Pollution Prevention recognizes New Hampshire businesses and organizations that have successfully reduced or eliminated wastes at the source.
