SYLVANIA LIGHTING PROVIDES A WARM, WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT FOR KIDS AT THE VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP
THE SITUATION:
The Victory Junction Gang Camp, located in Randleman, NC, is an independent, not-for-profit organization founded by NASCAR's famed Petty family. The camp is the newest addition to the nationwide network of Hole in the Wall Gang Camps for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses started by actor Paul Newman. The 70-acre, racing themed Victory Junction Gang camp provides a safe, fun-filled adventure for 1,200 children each summer and a total of 2,800 youth year round. The mission of the Victory Junction Gang Camp is to enrich the lives of children with serious illnesses by creating camping experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. The camp serves children ages 7-15 with the following diseases and conditions: arthritis, asthma, burn survivors, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, gastrointestinal disease, heart disease, hemophilia, immunology deficiencies/HIV, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease, sickle cell disease, skin disease and spina bifida. The camp's variety of buildings offer the kids an array of diverse functions, and called for a host of aesthetically pleasing, but still energy efficient, practical and high quality lighting products.
THE SOLUTION:
OSRAM SYLVANIA donated some of the lighting industry's most innovative and energy efficient indoor and outdoor light sources to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
The Body Shop, a state-of the-art medical facility at the camp, is illuminated primarily by SYLVANIA compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). CFLs can also be found in the bedside lamps of sleeping cabins, the Pit Stop and the fishing dock and pavilion. Compact fluorescent lamps were ideal for these locations where designers wanted to create cheerful atmosphere with bright, white light while filling the practical need for lamps that have a long life and require little maintenance.
"The children who spend time at the Victory Junction Gang Camp are facing monumental challenges. The camp is a colorful, upbeat, fun place where they can relax and just be kids for a change. We needed the lighting to reflect that happy, relaxed attitude, while keeping in mind practical concerns like energy efficiency and maintenance costs," said Jon DiGesu, director of brand strategy for OSRAM SYLVANIA. Both the Fuel Stop mess hall and the Horsepower Garage, which houses ponies, goats and donkeys, are lit by SYLVANIA METALARC(r) high intensity discharge lamps, which offer long life, maximum efficiency, bright light and work exceptionally well for high-bay applications both indoors and out.
Each NASCAR themed cabin is trimmed with SYLVANIA PROMINENCE(tm) LED contour lighting, a perfect fit for the lively colored camp. The Victory Junction Gang Camp theatre also features a spectrum of PROMINENCE accent lighting. PROMINENCE, which consists of LEDs enclosed within a plastic tube, comes in a variety of custom colors, uses 75 percent less energy than neon and requires only minimal maintenance.
