Internal Initiatives:
Recycling – We adopted the company-wide use of recycled paper; we promote desk-side recycling; and we recycle glass, paper, and metal at our manufacturing plants.
Energy Reduction – We reduced energy use by 10 percent at all company facilities.
Fuel Management – We enforce a no idling policy for our fleet, a no truck idling policy at our headquarters and manufacturing plants, and a speed management policy aimed at keeping our fleet vehicles at a speed no faster than 65mph for optimal fuel economy.
Ride Share Program – We are a founding member of our region’s Transportation Management Association that will offer employees better options for commuting to and from work.
Hazardous Materials Reduction – SYLVANIA has committed to reducing or eliminating hazardous materials in all of its products.
Mercury Reduction – All NEMA companies, including OSRAM SYLVANIA, have agreed to set a maximum mercury level in CFLs (compact fluorescent light bulbs) of up to 25W of 5 milligrams and 6 milligrams for products of higher wattage. Most of our CFLs contain around 3 milligrams of mercury.
Mercury Reduction – Over the last 20 years we have reduced mercury by 90 percent in our linear fluorescents and extended the life of the products. In 10 years, we’ve eliminated the use of 70,000 pounds of mercury from our ECOLOGIC lamps.
Plastic Reduction – We have continuously reduced our use of plastic PVC packaging and we are in the process of finding more recyclable and recycled packaging materials.
USGBC – OSRAM SYLVANIA is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a not-for-profit whose mission is dedicated to the sustainable design, construction and operations of greener buildings. |
