OSRAM UNVEILS NEW UNISHAPE TECHNOLOGY FOR P-VIP PROJECTION LAMP SYSTEMS AT INFOCOMM 2005

Constant improvements in lighting products keep pace with the dynamic audiovisual projection market.

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 8 - 10, 2005) - OSRAM, the lighting leader, is unveiling its new UNISHAPE(tm)  technology for its OSRAM P-VIP(r) super high performance projection lamp systems at InfoComm 2005, in booth #1819. OSRAM is first to the market with this unique technology which provides a significantly improved method of contrast enhancement for rear projection televisions (RPTVs) as well as for front projectors, while also utilizing the digital light processing (DLP) system of OSRAM's longtime industry partner, Texas Instruments.

"OSRAM is constantly striving to develop lamps that enrich the public's viewing experience," said Bob Horner, display systems business unit manager at OSRAM NAFTA. "Our family of P-VIP lamps with the added UNISHAPE technology will improve the position of RPTVs against plasma technology, advance overall viewing performance and ultimately help lower the cost and complexity of DLP projection as it continues to be globally adopted."

All OSRAM Display/Optic P-VIP lamps (100W - 300-watt) are available in a variety of elliptical and parabolic reflector designs and are ideally suited for front and rear projection microdisplay applications, large-screen multimedia presentations, cinema projection (film and digital), and data display applications. Their average rated service life, between 2,000 and 10,000 hours, leads to reduced maintenance and replacement costs for customers.

The lamp family offers extremely short electrode gaps and exceptionally high brightness levels, also making them the ideal light source for etendue limited DMD, LCD and LCoS microdisplay applications. OSRAM's P-VIP lamps come equipped with electronic drivers and user-defined software.

Moreover, OSRAM's UNISHAPE can be used with several lamp types and wattages, and has no adverse effect on lamp life.  Depending on the particular projection system design, OSRAM's UNISHAPE technology can increase the overall system efficiency allowing lower lamp wattages to produce similar performance to non-UNISHAPE systems.

Samples of OSRAM's P-VIP lamps with UNISHAPE technology are currently available.  Regular production will begin in October of 2005.
