OSRAM’s PLANON and LINEX SYSTEMS OFFER INNOVATIVE LIGHTING SOLUTIONS FOR THE MOST DEMANDING APPLICATIONS

Constant improvements in lighting products unleash

new creativity in the entertainment market

LAS VEGAS – October 22, 2004 – As part of their continued commitment to leading the lighting industry with a complete range of information and entertainment display products, the OSRAM Display/Optic division will showcase a number of exceptional lighting products at LDI 2004, the entertainment technology show.

Among the OSRAM products featured at LDI 2004 will be:

OSRAM PLANON®

The revolutionary, mercury-free OSRAM PLANON flat lamp technology provides added benefits to demanding liquid crystal display (LCD) and other display applications.  Debuting in 1997 as a breakthrough innovation, the OSRAM PLANON lamp system has been commercialized and is now available in panel diagonals from 10.4” to 21.3” for industrial displays, signage, and effect/architectural illumination purposes.  OSRAM also recently introduced a new 32” panel diagonal, expanding the lighting possibilities even further.

The OSRAM PLANON system has been designed to offer display and lighting integrators with as much design flexibility as possible for the most demanding of applications.  At well under 10 mm thin with extremely uniform and high luminance up to 10,000 nits (cd/m2), the OSRAM PLANON lamp integrates easily into advanced lighting designs and applications in sizes that fit most standard displays.  The lamps are available in several color temperatures and with inverters of different types, each with long life of up to 100,000 hours (MTTH), excellent maintenance and unprecedented reliability, as well as dimmability coupled with great stability to withstand harsh thermal and mechanical conditions in the most demanding of applications.

OSRAM PLANON lamps have been used with great success in such varied applications as point-of-sale and point of information displays, industrial displays, architectural applications, and architainment displays.  The product’s unique design enables it to be used in a wide range of locations where less rugged products fail.

OSRAM LINEX®

The unique characteristics of OSRAM’s mercury-free LINEX linear fluorescent excimer lamp systems make it well suited for a variety of the most challenging applications.  They can be used for backlighting and edge lighting signage, even in the most extreme temperature environments, and for applications where resilience in extreme temperature ranges, rapid lamp switching and consistent color are required.  The LINEX system is also an ideal choice for effect lighting, entertainment, industrial inspection and office automation applications.

The LINEX lamp systems feature a fluorescent triphosphor coating and produce intense, high color rendering white light at an illuminance of up to 80,000 lux at 8 millimeters from the aperture.  When operated in the patented high frequency pulsed mode by SYLVANIA QUICKTRONIC® electronic power supply, the lamp’s xenon gas discharge produces nearly instant full light output and can be switched on and off repeatedly, as hot restrike is not an issue.

Without mercury in the discharge, the phosphor and glass of the OSRAM LINEX lamps will not darken over time, and will yield extremely stable color throughout the life of the lamps. OSRAM LINEX lamps are designed to pass the Federal TCLP tests, and are extremely robust due to interior electrodes protected against vibration and damage from the gas discharge.  The output of this environmentally friendlier lighting system is unaffected by variations in ambient temperature, making it the ideal solution for dependable performance in the most demanding applications.
