OSRAM INTRODUCES 4ArXs HCD LAMP FAMILY AT LDI 2005

New ceramic arc tube offers a new shape in architainment lighting

ORLANDO, FL (November 11, 2005) – At LDI 2005, OSRAM is introducing the 4ArXs HCD® ceramic metal halide lamp family. Brilliant both indoors and outdoors, the 4ArXs HCD combines two revolutionary innovations: an optimized spherical ceramic arc tube ensuring uniform distribution of light, and eXtreme-Seal (XS) technology. The result is an extremely durable lamp family with a life of 8,000 hours, remarkable color stability and rendering that opens up new horizons in architectural effect lighting.

“We are very excited to offer the 4ArXs HCD® ceramic metal halide lamp series to entertainment and architectural lighting designers,” said Howie Ames, OSRAM  entertainment business unit manager. “This lamp family not only answers the durability, constant light and color performance issues they must deal with, it also offers the extraordinary potential of great lighting to come.”

OSRAM’s 4ArXS product name derives from “For Architainment eXtreme Seal,” thus drawing attention to the technological innovation behind this new generation of lamps for architecture, effect and entertainment lighting. The improved extreme seal technology within the 4ArXS HCD lamps protects against thermal stresses so that heat-sensitive areas of the power leads can withstand temperatures of up to 450°C.

These single-ended lamps are available in three wattages (35, 70 and 150 W), each with a color temperature of either 3000◦ or 4200◦ K.

OSRAM’s 4ArXs HCD unique ceramic technology ensures the lamp family’s long life, while the optimized filling system maintains the color temperature and luminous flux constant throughout the life of the lamp family. The special spherical shape of the arc tube produces an appreciably higher luminous flux than in lamps with cylindrical ceramic arc tubes.

The lamps have a high color rendering index (80-90 CRI depending on the wattage) and contain a noteworthy rendering at the red end of the spectrum, thus allowing for objects to appear closer to their natural colors.

The lamp’s outer bulb of the lamp is equipped with a UV filter, which effectively puts a brake on the aging process for any plastics or other UV-sensitive materials used within the luminaire. It also protects illuminated objects by reducing the bleaching effect on colors.
