INTRODUCING THE ALUPAR 64 LIGHTWEIGHT LAMP SERIES
New Extension to aluPAR Family of Halogen Entertainment Lamps
Houston, TX. (Mar. 20, 2008) – Stages will be shining brighter without putting any strain on the stage crew with the new OSRAM aluPAR® 64 1000W lamp series. These lamps, which are used for stage and show lighting, are up to 50 percent lighter in weight than conventional theatrical PAR 64 lamps.
Unlike traditional PAR lamps, the reflector in aluPAR lamps is constructed out of aluminum instead of glass. The aluminum reflector is lighter in weight, which makes relamping easier, as well as reducing shipping and transportation costs. Like the OSRAM aluPAR 56, the aluPAR 64 also contains a patented dual-fuse system that provides an increased level of operational safety for end-users. The new aluPAR 64 series also inherited the family’s robust lamp design, which ensures a long service life of 800 hours.
Reflector coating on regular PAR lamps can degrade over time, however due to the solid aluminum reflector, there is no spill light from the back of the fixture with an aluPAR lamp. The beam is smooth and uniform. Using aluPAR 64 lamps will save money on gels as aluPAR 64 lamps direct less heat forward, thus increasing gel life.
The University of New Hampshire recently used aluPAR 64 1000W lamps in their theatre production of Shakespeare in Hollywood. “These lamps were perfect for detailing specific spots on the stage, which helped distract the audience from the multiple set changes during this particular play,” explained Dan Raymond, UNH lighting designer. “My first impression of the lamp was that it was amazingly light in weight, especially compared to standard PAR lamps. After a closer look though, the consensus of the production team was that the lamp was brighter with a more confined, high quality beam.”
Offering lighting designers many options, aluPAR lamps are available with different luminous intensities, voltages and beam angles: Very Narrow Spot (VNSP), Narrow Spot (NSP) and Medium Flood (MFL). The Wide Flood (WFL) version will be available in the near future. Not only does OSRAM have a new aluPAR lamp line, but the company also offers a complete system solution with the SYLVANIA PAR-1 socket. The socket’s ceramic casing is slotted to allow the user to swing the leads exiting thelampholder up to 90 degrees.
Ideal applications for the aluPAR 64 include architectural, stage, studio, film, concert and disco lighting. Due to its high output, the lamp is a perfect choice for large-scale events.
“When we launched the aluPAR 56, the industry asked ‘What about the 64 series?’; today we’re delivering what was asked of us,” Mark DeLorenzo, OSRAM North American Display/Optic product manager for entertainment, commented. “The new aluPAR 64 lamps deliver easier handling, and coupled with the PAR-1 socket is a perfect match for a multitude of applications.”
In addition, aluPAR is an ECOLOGIC® product, which indicates that it is environmentally preferable. ECOLOGIC products are engineered to pass the Federal TCLP (Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure) test for hazardous waste determination. At the end of their life, the lamps can be disassembled for glass and aluminum recycling.
The aluPAR 56 300W was accepted into the 2006 Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Progress Report. The annual report highlights product development and advancements in the lighting industry. Products are evaluated for their design, engineering characteristics, installation features and overall uniqueness.
