OSRAM INTRODUCES NEW SERIES OF HALOGEN LAMPS FOR
NIGHTCLUB AND PHOTO SESSIONS AT LDI 2005

Quartz pinch technology key to providing brighter, tougher, safer lighting

ORLANDO, FL (November 11, 2005) – OSRAM announced at LDI 2005 that its new series of main voltage halogen lamps for entertainment, show and photo sectors will contain a breakthrough technological development in lighting. Unlike before, these lamps will be manufactured using OSRAM’s patented quartz pinch technology, making them brighter, safer, more rugged and reliable than their predecessors.

The OSRAM quartz pinch technology enables the filament wire in the halogen lamps to be fixed directly in the bulb by quartz pinch points or “glass knobs,” making them extremely rugged and more resistant to shocks, vibrations and jolts. By discarding the — now extra — conventional filament holders, the quality of the lamp is improved; the new lamp family will actually provide an increase in efficacy as well as up to 10 percent more brightness.

“OSRAM’s quartz pinch technology allows our halogen lamps to provide brighter and more reliable light, and overcome many harsh operating conditions often experienced with nightclub effect lighting units, as well as professional photographic and video lights. Even slide projectors will benefit from this unique technology,” said Howie Ames, OSRAM entertainment business unit manager. “More importantly, this breakthrough is another example of what sets OSRAM’s halogen lamps apart from the others.”

A patented integrated fuse system within the new main voltage halogen lamps provides additional safety. At the end of its life and in critical situations, the lamps in this series instantly switch off, thereby preventing an arc from forming. This integrated fuse system complies with DIN IC 60432-2 and prevents the bulb from non-passive failures.

Fitted with GX6.35 bases, OSRAM’s new main voltage halogen lamps have an overall length of 53 mm and a diameter of 18.5 mm. Available in 200 and 300 wattages and 120 V, 230 V and 240 V versions, these advanced halogen lamps have been designed to suit a variety of applications.
