New 4ArXs HCD Family of Lamps with Ceramic Arc Tubes
LAS VEGAS, NV (Oct. 20, 2006) – OSRAM SYLVANIA today announced the new OSRAM 4ArXs HCD® ceramic metal halide family of lamps. Its spherical ceramic arc tube ensures uniform distribution of light, impressive color stability and excellent color rendering. Additionally, with its long life of 8,000+ hours, it’s the ideal choice in creative architectural lighting, both indoors and outdoors.
4ArXS stands for "For Architainment eXtreme Seal." Apart from indicating its principal application, this name identifies one of the technologies behind this new generation of lamps for architecture, effect and entertainment lighting. XS technology protects lamps against thermal stresses so the heat-sensitive area of the power leads can withstand temperatures up to 450°C. These single-ended lamps are available in three wattages (35, 70 and 150 W), each with a color temperature of either 3,000 or 4,200 Kelvin (K).
Ceramic technology ensures long lamp life, while the optimized filling system keeps the color temperature and luminous flux largely constant throughout the life of the lamp. The lamps have a high color rendering index with particularly good rendering at the red end of the spectrum. Objects appear in their natural colors, while the special spherical shape of the arc tube produces an appreciably higher luminous flux than in lamps with cylindrical ceramic arc tubes.
The outer bulb of the lamp is equipped with a UV filter. This effectively puts a brake on the aging process for any plastics or other UV-sensitive materials used in the luminaire. It also protects illuminated objects, for example, by reducing the bleaching effect on colors.
