SYLVANIA Introduces ECOLOGIC 3 Family of Lamps

Danvers, Mass., (Nov. 7, 2007) – North America’s leading lighting manufacturer, OSRAM SYLVANIA, introduces ECOLOGIC®3, the industry’s most sustainable lighting solution today at the Greenbuild Expo in Chicago.  ECOLOGIC3 is the latest in SYLVANIA’s ongoing efforts to offer the most environmentally preferable products on the market.

The ECOLOGIC3 family includes 25 different SYLVANIA OCTRON® T8 lamps; each exemplifies the three major features of environmentally responsible lighting: longer lamp life, higher lumens per watt and RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) compliance for hazardous materials. It all adds up to a lower environmental impact and lower energy costs.

“We encourage people to look at ‘green’ lighting differently; to research what products will provide them with the most sustainable solution in each crucial component of complete sustainability: RoHS compliance, long life and higher lumens per watt (LPW).  It’s when you combine these three elements that you really start to see the energy and cost savings and environmental benefits,” said Jennifer Dolin, environmental marketing manager, OSRAM SYLVANIA.

ECOLOGIC 3 fluorescent lamps are a premium subset of the SYLVANIA ECOLOGIC® family -- lamps that have passed the Federal TCLP (Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure) test for hazardous waste determination.  SYLVANIA took it one step further by improving their industry-leading OCTRON T8 lamps – the first T8 introduced 26 years ago by SYLVANIA – in each of the following areas:

Longer life:  At 36,000 hours at twelve hours per start, fewer lamps are needed, fewer natural resources are consumed and less waste is generated, not to mention lowering your maintenance and lamp replacement costs.

Superior efficacy:  ECOLOGIC 3 lamps have a rating of at least * 91 LPW. This   means you can light a space to proper recommended levels with fewer lamps and possibly fewer fixtures.  Higher LPW also equates to less energy usage and a reduction of power plant emissions.

RoHS compliance:  ECOLOGIC 3 lamps are designed to meet RoHS compliance for hazardous materials, assuring environmental responsibility.  OSRAM SYLVANIA always recommends recycling as the proper method of lamp disposal.
