New York, N.Y. – (October 21, 2004) – OSRAM SYLVANIA, the lighting industry leader, has introduced its latest innovation, SYLVANIA PROMINENCETM. A complete contour lighting solution, PROMINENCE delivers versatility that was previously unavailable in the marketplace. PROMINENCE is illuminated by solid-state light emitting diodes (LEDs) enclosed in polycarbonate tubing and controlled by a patented low-voltage power supply. Delivering warm, rich light in a spectrum of custom colors, PROMINENCE uses 75 percent less energy than neon and is virtually maintenance free. Backed by SYLVANIA LIGHTING SERVICES, only SYLVANIA PROMINENCE offers a custom manufactured, expertly installed contour lighting solution.
PROMINENCE is ideally suited for edge or border lighting to add to a building’s interior or exterior décor. Unlike any other product currently on the market, PROMINENCE is custom fit to each installation and can be matched to a customer’s unique corporate colors. Because PROMINENCE tubing maintains its color whether it’s turned on or off, the aesthetic appeal of the installation is maintained 24 hours a day.

PROMINENCE Outshines Competitors
A great choice for energy savings, PROMINENCE uses 75 percent less energy than neon lighting, leading to substantial costs savings. PROMINENCE is also an environmentally friendly choice; its soft, pure light eliminates the glare that can be caused by neon or fluorescent tubes.
“PROMINENCE is a safe and reliable alternative when neon or fluorescent lighting is not the right option,” Swanson said. “PROMINENCE is the ultimate lighting chameleon for interior and exterior lighting. Its color, length and shape can all be customized to meet unique customer needs.”
In contrast to neon and fluorescent lighting, installation of PROMINENCE is made fast and easy by a unique daisy chain configuration and a clip system that allows installation directly to a structure or attachment to brackets. For easier installation, SYLVANIA LIGHTING SERVICES offers a network of lighting technicians throughout North America who can install the PROMINENCE system. Once installed, PROMINENCE requires almost no maintenance for up to 10 years.
The PROMINENCE power supply contains a patented safety circuit that immediately shuts down the system if a fault is detected. After a diagnostic process and a resolution of the problem, the PROMINENCE system will automatically restart.
Because of its low voltage and low temperature when lit, PROMINENCE tubing is ideal for many indoor decorating projects. The factory-sealed product is virtually unbreakable and cool to the touch, making it an excellent choice for highlight, walkway or decorative lighting.
PROMINENCE Put to the Test
SYLVANIA LIGHTING SERVICES recently completed exterior PROMINENCE installations at four Kwik Fill service station/convenience stores, owned by United Refining Company, in Pennsylvania. In the trademark Kwik Fill shades of green and yellow, PROMINENCE was used to highlight station canopies and distinguish Kwik Fill stations from nearby competitors.

The next generation of PROMINENCE lighting is already being developed; future new features will include programmable color-changing systems and chase-lighting configurations. SYLVANIA is also currently working on PROMINENCE custom imaging, in a variety of lamp configurations.
