SYLVANIA 300

NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (NHIS)

New Hampshire International Speedway opened for racing in June of 1990.  It is the only superspeedway and largest sporting facility in the six-state New England region.  It currently hosts both of New England’s largest sporting events, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races in July and September, with over 100,000 guests in attendance at each event.

Since 1990, the Speedway has become the home for major league NASCAR racing featuring the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series; the NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series; the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series; the NASCAR Busch Series; and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.  NHIS (“The Magic Mile”) is one of the 22 speedways that host the 36 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races, and it is one of only 13 speedways that host two NEXTEL Cup events.

In 1990, New Hampshire International Speedway hosted its first NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series; NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series; and NASCAR Busch Series events.  In 1993, the Speedway held its first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race.  In 1996, “The Magic Mile” added the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to its schedule.  In 1997, NHIS began hosting a second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race each year.

“The Magic Mile” has continued the tradition of the Loudon Motorcycle Classic, the nation’s oldest motorcycle race, and is also the site of one of the largest vintage motorcycle and automobile meets in the nation.

The Speedway hosts eight weekends of amateur Loudon Road Racing Series motorcycle races in Clear Channel Communication’s Championship Cup Series, seven weekends of Sport Car Club of America races, and four weekends of World Karting Association races.  NHIS is the site for the New England Prep Schools Bicycle Championship, the New Hampshire rounds of the Soap Box Derby, and various car club and automotive manufacturer activities.

The Speedway consists of more than 1,000 acres including a 1.058-mile oval and a 1.6 mile road circuit. A semi-circular 3-mile, 5-lane highway serves all of “The Magic Mile’s” parking areas.

Major infield buildings include four 26-Bay enclosed garages , the 150-seat Checkered Flag Restaurant, the Jack Ratta Media Center, the Family Center, the Lincoln Electric/Merriam-Graves Welding Shop, and the Infield Care Center.  The Administration Building including the Starting Line Souvenir Store, Competitor & Press Registration buildings, and Maintenance Building are located adjacent to the Speedway’s Main Entrance.  The Concord, Main and Laconia Grandstands feature 39 VIP Suites, the Press Box, Race Control, TV & Radio Broadcast Booths, 31 restrooms, 26 concession stands, and five elevators.
