Harvick, also the Busch series Rookie-of-the-Year in 2000, will be featured in the No. 21 PayDay Chevrolet in 15 events this season. Johnny Sauter will compete in the remaining events, and the Harvick/Sauter combination will attempt to bring another team championship to Richard Childress Racing of Welcome, N.C.

Harvick has been a racer for most of his life. After completing kindergarten, Harvick got his first ride, a go-kart from his parents. After ten years of competitively racing go-karts, Harvick accumulated seven National Championships and two Grand National Championships.

In 1995, Harvick garnered Rookie-of-the-Year honors in the Featherlite Southwest Series. He won one race and finished 11th in the rankings.

During Harvick's successful stint in those divisions, he also competed in the Craftsman Truck Series. From 1995-1999, Harvick competed in 70 events. His best year was 1999, when he competed in 25 events and finished 12th in the rankings. Harvick also competed in two ARCA races, scoring a second-place finish in Charlotte, N.C., and a third-place finish in Talladega, Ala.

Well-respected team owners began to notice Harvick, and in 2000 Richard Childress chose Harvick to drive the No. 2 AC-Delco Chevy in the Busch Series. That year, Harvick was named Rookie-of-the-Year after picking up three wins, eight top-fives, 16 top-tens, two poles and a third-place finish in the standings.
