SLS is the leader in lighting service and maintenance. For 40 years, we have provided customers with the highest quality energy management programs.  Service Technicians make up over 75% of our staff, and with a fleet of over 500 service vehicles, we can meet our customers’ needs anytime and anywhere. SLS technicians make an average of 30,000 customer stops per month to perform lighting retrofits, group relamps, service calls, and inspections.

SYLVANIA Lighting Services is also the first lighting service company to recycle lamps at the end of life.  We take great pride in being the industry leaders in recycling. Even before the nation realized the benefits of recycling, SLS was doing it. And we still recycle today.

In fact, during 2005, SLS sent 8.7 Million lamps to EPSI (Earth Protection Services, Inc.), our recycling partner, keeping 112 pounds of mercury from landfills.

 

After we service a facility or complete a project, we take the old lamps and ballasts and recycle them properly for a small fee.

Recycling lamps and ballasts keeps our customers in compliance with state and local disposal regulations.

Other Environmental Initiatives:

In April 2005, SLS instituted two policies that led to significant environmental benefits for local communities, cost reductions for the company, and health and safety benefits for drivers.  In addition, an existing vehicle purchasing initiative provides environmental benefits, as newer vehicles are fitted with air pollution reduction technology.

Speed Management:

SLS implemented a speed management policy, setting a 65 mph speed limit for the fleet, regardless of higher limits on state highways.  The primary driver for this policy was safety, and the added benefit was a savings of 4,147.5 gallons of fuel over a two-month period.  This will result in savings of 538,511 pounds of CO2 annually, as well as 298 pounds of Particulate Matter(PM) and 9,800 pounds of NOx.

No Idling:

SLS also implemented a no-idling policy, requiring vehicles not in service or traffic to idle for no longer than 5 minutes.  More stringent state policies take precedence.  This policy is projected to save 9,028 gallons of fuel each month, or 108,343 gallons per year.  Air pollution reductions include 2.3 million pounds of CO2, 1,300 pounds of PM and 42,670 pounds of NOx per year.
