Energy-efficient OCTRON XP and TRU-AIM IR lamps light up Lindsay Ferrai offices
The Situation
Lindsay Ferrari, the largest dealer of Steelcase furniture products west of the Mississippi, required office spaces that were flexible and could double as a showcase for the products. Additionally, the project program included teaming areas: a "Leadership Community Center" private and informal conferencing areas, training center, a flexible display area for product mock-ups and a warehouse. The high ceilings and exposed structure of this nondescript tilt-up office building provided the backdrop for the juxtaposition of futuristic forms and a slightly 50's retro interior.
The Solution
The open office areas were lighted with "Intellume" - a new indirect fluorescent lighting system manufactured by Steelcase with OCTRON® XP™ T8 energy saving, long life, fluorescent lamps. This system provided glare free, uniform lighting at the work surfaces and served as a showcase for this new product in which clients could experience the system in a real life office setting. Elsewhere in the space, the lighting was less "serious" and provided a sense of playfulness.
Accent lighting with energy saving TRU-AIM® IR MR-16 lamps in the reception lobby is suspended from the second story ceiling by theatrical pantographs, which can be raised or lowered. Spread lenses were square etched glass in lieu of round to create the interesting pattern of light on the wall. Giant globes ranging in size from 12 inches to 36 inches in diameter are randomly placed at varying heights in the Leadership center. Lighting is used throughout to emphasize the large geometric forms and expansive surfaces and to create a sense of brightness and balance in the space.
